Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Evaluate the variable inputs which affect crop production.
Range crops may include – cereals, herbage and seed, brassica, pulse crops, potatoes;

evidence is required for at least three crops;

inputs – fertiliser, irrigation (if applicable), weed control, pest and disease control.
Performance criteria
1.1 Variable inputs are stated and the effects on production of manipulating those inputs explained for each crop.
1.2 Crop yield range is specified for crops in terms of regional production norms.
Element 2
Describe the effect of crops on arable farm operations and resources.
Range may include – cereals, herbage and seed, brassica, pulse crops, potatoes;

evidence is required for at least three crops.


Performance criteria
2.1 The timing of activities for each crop is described in terms of how these align with other arable activities.
2.2 The influence of crops as they affect the whole farm is explained in relation to soil fertility, stock, crop rotations, growing other cultivars, work programme, machinery capacity, and time of marketing.
2.3 Crop growth stages at which irrigation (if applicable); fertiliser; and weed, pest and disease control; are critical, are identified and described in terms of the required husbandry practices.
2.4 The quality assurance requirements of specialist crops are described in terms of MAF Qual certification.
Element 3
Describe the integration of stock with arable farm production.
Performance criteria
3.1 The benefits of integrating stock are described in terms of short and medium term gains to the producer.
3.2 Stock integration is described for different classes of stock.
3.3 Cropping programmes resulting from managing stock are described in terms of limitations to the programme.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
