Agastache foeniculum, Anise Hyssop*


  • Description: Tall native perennial with showy blue flower spikes in the summer. Aromatic foliage.

  • Origin: North America.

  • Height x width: 3 feet tall.

  • Growth habit: Upright.

  • Foliage: Opposite, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, serrated margins, 2 to 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. Strong anise fragrance.

  • Flowers: Small blue or purple flowers packed into a 4 to 5-inch long terminal spike.

  • Culture: Full sun and moist, well-drained soil.

  • Uses: Border. Cut flower. Leaves are edible and are used in teas, salads and drinks. Attracts bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.

  • Propagation: Seed.
