|SUGGESTED SUBJECT LINE: – AYE VOTE REQUESTED ON SB 657 AND SB 1231 – STOP SLAVERY NOW
Dear (Assembly member’s name):
I am writing you today to demonstrate my support for SB 657 & SB 1231 and ask for your help. These bills will be on the Assembly Floor soon, and I am hoping that you will show your solidarity with me in voting AYE, and helping California’s stream of commerce become free of forced and slave labor, and human trafficking. The problem of forced and slave labor, and human trafficking in the state of California is well documented. We are the fourth largest destination for human trafficking in the United States.
SB 657 & SB 1231 are aimed at curtailing the problem of forced and slave labor, and human trafficking by reducing the demand for goods and services produced by the hands of individuals who are incapable of freeing themselves.
These bills go a long way in holding corporations accountable for their actions by asking them to conduct their business in a transparent fashion- documenting production and services utilized in the supply chain- to insure that they are not abusing the rights of men, women and children who are subjected to cruel and inhumane working conditions. It is imperative that California take a firm stand against the sale of goods and services produced by the hands of forced and slave labor, and that your vote on SB 657and SB 1231 be AYE.
