  • Description: Small perennial grown as an annual with slender, upright flower spikes that bloom spring through fall.

  • Origin: Mexico and the West Indies.

  • Height x width: 1 to 2 feet tall, depending on the cultivar, and up to 1 foot wide.

  • Growth habit: Upright to bushy.

  • Foliage: Opposite, lanceolate, serrate. Foliage smells like apples.

  • Flowers: Upright spikes up to 8 inches long with snapdragon-like tubular flowers. Blue, purple, white, pink and bicolors.

  • Culture: Full sun and well-drained soil. Heat and drought tolerant. Does not need deadheading.

  • Uses: Bedding plant, mixed containers, cut flower.

  • Propagation: Seed, cuttings.
