Notes on this CD Version (Edition II) of the Checklist
A second-edition checklist, based on Mitchell & Tucker (1997), is released here, with an accompanying database, in electronic (CD-ROM) format only. It was produced in response to a number of requests by those who are compiling their own plant inventories, ecological reports, rare species lists, regional and local floras. Individual entries and passages may be copied for private and internal business use, but not republished without permission. Certain species and varieties have been added or subtracted to bring the list up to date. Some synonyms and rarity-status listings have changed, otherwise most entries are the same as in the earlier hard cover edition. All current revisions are by Richard Mitchell. Introductory text, references, indices and a list of excluded species may be found in the book edition. Synonymy is far more extensive in the checklist than in the database, where cross-referencing may be easily accomplished, using a simple word-search. Wetland codes in the database do not always agree with federal designations, since they were modified to reflect the habitats in which the plants actually occur in New York. Rarity and State protection rankings are in compliance with New York State Law 6 NYCRR Part 193.3 at the time of this CD issue (2000). Global and State Nature Conservancy codes change each year. For current status of any species, contact the New York Natural Heritage Program, Latham, NY.
Symbols:  = extirpated (or not persisting, if the species is introduced)

* = not native to New York State
