New Orleans, LA – On March 21, the CPE Certified Port Executive™ Program welcomed seventeen new graduates who completed the program on March 15 at the Port of New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana. The new graduates join a growing alumnus of port, transportation, coast guard and military personnel who have participated in the program since its creation in 2010.

The CPE Certified Port Executive™ Program is a five-day professional education course focused on the operations of ports, vessels, marine terminals and the related transportation system. The program, a distinctive new learning pathway for professionals in the port world, gives participants tools and knowledge to make their organizations more effective, and has drawn the attention of a broad cross-section of executives from all over North America. Course topics include an overview of the worldwide intermodal transportation system; port and terminal operations; cargo management; safety and security; emergency planning and response; public and media relations; environmental management; and strategic, master, and business planning.

“Graduates of the CPE Certified Port Executive™ Program receive specified training that allows them to make incredibly positive contributions to the operations and competitiveness of the port and marine transportation system in North America,” said company president Ralston MacDonnell. “Congratulations to each of you on your successful completion of what is a demanding and intensive course.”

The New Orleans course was delivered by Captain Jeffrey Monroe, CPE, MM, MTM, a licensed master mariner with a Master’s Degree in Transportation Management. Monroe developed the 40-hour CPE Certified Port Executive™ Program for MacDonnell and has trained over 300 senior civilian and military personnel throughout Canada, including the Canadian National Defense Force Transportation Command. The class was addressed by New Orleans Port President and CEO Gary LaGrange and Rear Admiral Roy A. Nash, the Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans.

Monroe commented on the class, “The New Orleans course was exceptional,” said Captain Monroe. “It was incredible to instruct a classroom of students from such a wide variety of organizations and geographies across North America – and the Port of New Orleans was a perfect host.”
