Little York Plantation Fact Sheet

Rock Gardening

Our cooler, shorter growing season, in combination with the hilly and rocky glacial deposit terrain in CNY, is highly conducive to classic European rock and alpine gardening. Rock plants and alpines are usually slow-growing, low habit plants most suitable for rock gardening for their cold hardiness and adaptability to rocky areas were soil isn’t as plentiful. Mixing evergreen specimens and hardy perennials gives the richest beauty and interest.

Alpines – bloom early in spring to insure seed set before onset of harsh winter weather.

Rock plants –bloom well into summer extending the beauty and interest of a rock garden with their neat habit and restricted size.
