ITU-T Study Group 15, Question 13 (Q13/15) thanks the IEEE802.1 Working Group for the detailed answer related to the use of the IEEE 1588-2008 Transparent Clock.

Q13/15 agrees that layer violation could be dangerous in growing networks and will not follow this way.

Q13/15 will follow the solution presented by IEEE 802.1 when integrating the IEEE 1588-2008 Transparent Clock into the Telecom Profiles being developed by Q13/15 (ITU-T G.8275.x).

The solutions provisionally agreed by Q13/15 for ITU-T G.8275.1 are compatible with the reply from IEEE 802.1.
During the discussion, questions were raised on the transport of PTP when mapped over IP according to IEEE annexes D and E, across a L2 bridge hosting a TC function. Q13/15 would like to receive guidance from IEEE 802.1 on this point.
