Requirements





  1. Personnel operating at water incidents shall meet all the requirements specified in Chapter 4 of NFPA 1670, Standard for Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents. [NFPA 1670, 9.1, 2004 Edition.]


SIZE-UP





  1. The student shall recognize the need for water search and rescue operations. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (1),

2004 Edition.]


  1. The student shall explain what functions are included in the size-up. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (2), 2004 Edition.]

VICTIM ASSESSMENT





  1. The student shall explain how to establish communications with the victim. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (2), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall determine rescue versus body recovery. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (7), 2004 Edition]

EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM





  1. The student shall identify the resources necessary to conduct safe and effective water search rescue operations. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (3), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall identify whom to call for in the emergency response system for operations level capabilities on the scene of a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (4) 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall identify whom to call for in the emergency response system for technician level capabilities on the scene of a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (4), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall identify whom to call for at the local, state and federal level for a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (4), 2004 Edition]


SITE CONTROL/SCENE MANAGEMENT


  1. The student shall identify procedures for carrying out site control and scene management on a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (5), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall identify procedures for management of all civilian and nonemergency personnel at a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (5), 2004 Edition]

12. The student shall identify procedures for establishing operational zones and site security at a water search and

rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (5)]
RECOGNITION OF HAZARDS


  1. The student shall recognize the general hazards associated with a water search and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall identify the procedures necessary to mitigate hazards within the general rescue area. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall explain the procedures for assessing the perimeter surrounding a water search and rescue incident to determine the presence of or potential for hazardous conditions that could pose a risk to the rescuer. Hazards can include, but not limited to, hazardous atmospheres, and hazardous chemicals. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]




  1. The student shall recognize the need for decontamination of a patient or responder who might have been exposed to a hazards material. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6)]




  1. The student shall recognize any hazardous atmospheres or materials through visual assessment and information received from on-site personnel. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]



PPE

  1. The student shall be able to identify and utilize personal floatation devices (PFD’s) for the use at a water search

and rescue operation. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]


  1. The student shall be able to identify the specific PPE necessary for safe water search and rescue operations. [NFPA 1670, 9.2.3 (6), 2004 Edition]
