The spelling of Rynear shows up in various places.

3. The Will of Rinere Powelson was dated Jan. 4, 1838 and recorded May 28, 1838. The estate was appraised at $253.00 of which John R. was to get all; Rinere -$50.00; daughters Eliza and Rosannah -$50.00 each. He also mentions wife Elizabeth. The witnesses were Powel, Thomas and Cloeann Powelson. In his Will the name is spelled Rinere.

After their marriage (Peter and Catherine) they moved to Roxbury, Morris Co., New Jersey.

Since Peter is listed as a member of the Somerset County Militia during the Revolutionary War, his move to Morris County probably came during or after the war and probably several years after his marriage.

About 1796, his family emigrated to Brooke County, VA (now in West Virginia) and settled nearly opposite the present city of Steubenville, Ohio.

His brother John and his family also went to Brooke County and, about 1808, went on to Mt. Vernon. Knox County, Ohio

Hasting, Francis and Ann Powelson, Feb. 27, 1831 (Fisher).

2005: From Frank W Powelons book:

He received a liberal education and came to America when a young man. On his first voyage he was ship-wrecked off the coast of New Jersey, and was washed to shore at Long Branch, N.J. At that time there being only one small farm house in the settlement. He taught school after his arrival and was the teacher of Rev. T. De Witt Talmage in a small school house on the Pluckamim Road, north of Somerville. Dr. Talmage, on one occasion said he remembered his old teacher, Francis Hastings in opening, the school with prayer putting his foot on a chair and his elbow on his knee, and his hand before his eyes, but often looking through his fingers while he prayed, to see if any one was behaving badly, so that he literally fulfilled the injunction, "Watch and Pray."

After his marriage, he purchased a small farm in Bridgewater, Twp., on the Pluckamin Road. He was chosen one of the first elders of the Pluckamin Presbyterian Church. Was a man of the deepest piety and a religious spirit seemed to pervade his whole life and he would engage in no undertaking unless consecrated with prayer.

He made several trips to England, once on the "Great Eastern", in the interest of the estate for his father in the days of Lord Rawdon, (Marquis of Hastings).

After the death of his wife, in 1854, he removed with his family to Fairview, Fulton Co., Illinois, and after remaining there a number of years, he returned to New Jersey and died in Jersey City. Both are buried in the Pluckamin Cemetery.
