Abstract

We tested Slater Creek to find out the water quality. It’s important Slater Creek flows to lake Ontario and we used that water for everyday things like drinking water, showers, and etc. Soil testing ….pH 5.66, Fertility which is low, and temperature10.85 in Slater Creek. Chemical water testing in Slater Creek, nitrate 1.666666667ppm, phosphate 0.675ppm,(DO) 6.75ppm, and pH 7.025ppm. Both tolerant and intolerant Macroinvertebrates species were found in Slater Creek.

Materials and Methods

For this lab I used LaMotte nitrate-nitrogen model 3354. For pH I used LaMotte wide range pH model 3353. Temperature I used a thermometer. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) I used LaMotte model 3976. Phosphate I used aquarium pharmaceuticals PO CD-27184. For Tree Biodiversity and Macro invertebrates I counted and gathered information.

Physical Testing in Slater Creek, odor was musky and harsh. Temp.at site 9 degrees C. the Temp. 20 M upstream was 11 degrees C. The Temperature change was 2 degrees.

Discussion

Slater Creek pH was 5.66 ppm with means it’s very poor. In that state of pH the water will have bottom dwelling bacteria begin to die leafs begin to pile up in the water blocking essential nutrients and interrupting chemical cycling. But the Change in temperature show excellent quality. (DO) Dissolved Oxygen was high. Most of the important tests like Nitrate and Macroinveterbrates showed that the water quality was poor. Eutrophication is happening to Slater Creek because of the high level of nitrate 1.666666667 ppm. Slater Creek area has farm near it so when cow manure can be but down and raise Phosphate level and make Slater Creek even more poor in quality.
