Cooperative Responses to Global Challenges

This international conference is organized by the Humboldt-University Berlin and the German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Confederation (DGRV). It is organized within the framework of the International Year of Cooperatives 2012.
The conference brings together leading academics, practitioners, advisors, and political decision-makers. The aim is to critically discuss, collect the evidence and demonstrate the capabilities of cooperatives to respond to global challenges. The event is meant to provide an interdisciplinary platform for setting the research agenda in the field of cooperative studies beyond the year 2012. Farm Level Modelling Workshop

May 17-19, 2012: Dublin, Ireland

Farm Level Modelling Workshop is being run as part of the European City of Science which is being hosted by Dublin in 2012 and in association with the European Meeting of the International Microsimulation Association.


The workshop is open to all areas of Farm Level Modelling including: Systems Modelling, Farm Level Policy Modelling, Farm Level Microsimulation Modelling, Behavioural Simulation Modelling, Spatial Simulation Modelling and Farm-Supply Chain Modelling. 10th Wageningen International Conference on Chain and Network Management (WICaNeM 2012)
May 23-25, 2012: Wageningen, The Netherlands
The 10th Wageningen International Conference on Chain and Network Management (WICaNeM 2012) celebrates twenty years of conversations among scholars and practitioners involved in the management of chains and networks. WICaNeM 2012 aims to further broaden its horizons in multiple directions. First, a number of managers from agribusiness companies, NGOs, government agencies and international organizations will arise and discuss the current problems in agri-food chains and networks with scholars. Second, scholars from a range of new disciplines will be engaged in WICaNeM for the first time, as they are also facing the same problems and contributing to their solutions. Third, scholars and practitioners from new organizations around the world will attend WICaNeM as the current problems in agri-food chains and networks are increasingly interconnected across the globe. First Conference of the Italian Association of Agricultural and Applied Economics (AIEAA): Towards a Sustainable Bio-economy

June 4-5 2012: Trento, Italy

Environment, energy, health, food safety and food security are among the most important nowadays issues linked with the challenge of a sustainable development of the so called bio-economy. Agriculture is a core sector of the bio-economy but the latter includes other important industries producing and/or exploiting natural resources.The challenge of a sustainable development of the overall bio-economy claims for a careful analysis of the interdependencies between the bio-based industries as well as of their relationships with natural resources.


Economic and policy issues dealing with climate change, land use for energy purposes, research and innovations in the bio-economy, technology options for developed and developing countries, the sustainable use of natural resources are the main themes of the first Conference of the AIEAA.


AIEAA welcomes the submission of contributions on the topics above. However, the submission of contributions on all agricultural and applied economics topics is encouraged as well.

Cooperative Finance and Sustainable Development

June 14-15, 2012: Trento, Italy
Euricse (European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises) announces the organization of the Third Euricse Conference on Cooperative Finance and Sustainable Development. The conference is organized in collaboration with Federcasse (Italian federation of Cooperative Credit Banks) and with the support of EACB (European Association of Co-operative Banks).
The organizers are inviting papers that explore the following themes:

  1. Analysis of the contribution of coop banks to real sector and of their actual performance

  2. Searching for fertile ground for the diffusion of the cooperative banking model: Prerequisites, socio-economic coincidence and need within and beyond the European level

  3. Regulation, competition policy and forced changes for coop banks: leveling or distorting the playing field

  4. Making membership meaningful: revisiting the concept and procedures of retaining or re-establishing the link with local societies

22st Annual IFAMA Forum and Symposium: “The Road to 2050: The China Factor”

Ninth Conference on "Industrial Organization and the Food Processing Industry"

June 21-22, 2012: Toulouse, France
The objective of the conference is to discuss recent contributions in theoretical and empirical economics to the understanding of the functioning of food markets. Special attention will be given to the formal analysis of firms’ market conduct, the relationships between agriculture, the food processing industry and distribution networks, and the new issues raised by health concerns.
Topics to be covered include food and health (obesity, chronic diseases and nutrition long-term effects, public policy, …), marketing in food retailing, market conduct and market power in the food processing industry, contractual relationships in the agro-food chain, cooperatives and contracts, product quality, information, and food safety, intellectual property rights and biotechnology, GMO, performance and productivity analysis of the agro-food sector. Summer School in Economics

The I.S.E.O international Summer School aims at bringing together a large number of graduate students coming from the most important international universities to improve their knowledge in economics. Classes will be held by Nobel Laureates for Economic Sciences and well-known economists. At the end of the course students will also receive an attendance certificate.

Summer Programme on the WTO, International Trade and Development

Summer School on the three SE Pillars: Social Entrepreneurship, Social Economy and Solidarity Economy

July 4-8, 2012: Trento, Italy
After two successful editions of the EMES PhD Summer Schools, at the University of Corsica (France) in 2008 and Roskilde University (Denmark) in 2010, the third edition will be held in Trento (Italy) in July 2012. The previous editions constituted outstanding successes, with over 79 students from over 28 countries taking part in the summer schools, the publication of a PhD Reader, the launching of an EMES PhD Student Network in 2008 and the creation of a dedicated blog (EMES Junior Experts Blog) in 2011.
Several policy actions and initiatives, particularly in Europe, are being launched around the three “SE pillars” - as termed by EMES’ researchers in the first EMES PhD Reader -, which include social enterprise and social entrepreneurship, social economy and solidarity economy. In addition, there seems to be an ever-growing level of attention on the part of researchers around the globe for the wide array of topics included therein. Erasmus Mundus Mobility Grants
A call for ALRAKIS, a project funded in the framework of the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 is now open. In the framework of the ALRAKIS project, student exchange will take place on the undergraduate, master, doctorate and post-doctorate levels.  Also, the academic and administrative staff will have a possibility to engage in the mobility.

The  program  consortium  consists  of 19 leading universities from EU member  states  and  non  EU countries,  which  is coordinated by the Georg-August  University  (Gottingen, Germany). Three Universities are involved in the consortium from Armenia, namely the Yerevan State University, Eurasia International University, Yerevan State Medical University. Aleksanteri Institute Visiting Fellowships 2012-13
The Aleksanteri Institute’s Visiting Scholars Programme invites applications for Aleksanteri Visiting Fellowships for the 2012-2013 academic year from scholars holding a PhD degree and pursuing research that relates to the Institute’s research agenda.
