DAY ONE: CMO
SPOT 1: PIT - START IN THE AIR FOR CAT III 10L PIT. TO MISSED APPROACH. TO PUBLISHED HOLD AT EWC. DISCUSS FUEL REQUIRED TO ALTERNATE.

(NOTE: FUEL NUMBERS ON HOLD PAGE AND ON PROG PAGE ARE NOT ACCURATE FOR USE UNTIL ROUTE + APPROACH TO ALTERNATE ARE ENTERED INTO THE MCDU)


SPOT 2: LEAVE HOLDING PATTERN AT EWC FOR RNAV APPROACH –PIT. THEN MISSED APPROACH BACK TOWARDS HOLDING PATTERN. ENROUTE YOU GET A TCAS RA.
SPOT 2A: RETURN FOR AN ASR APPROACH TO MISSED APPROACH AT PIT.
SPOT 3: AFTER A SUCCESSFUL MISSED APPROACH…DISCUSSION ENSUES ABOUT DISENGAGING AND RE-ENGAGING THE LEVELS OF AUTOMATION. THIS LEADS TO AN ILS WITH NO AUTOPILOT/FLIGHT DIRECTOR/ AUTOTHRUST ….TO A LANDING.
SPOT 4: PLAN TAKEOFF PIT…WINDSHEAR ADVISORIES IN EFFECT…USE QRH WINDSHEAR DECISION TREE. T/O ALTERNATE? BE READY FOR PREDICTIVE TO REACTIVE WINDSHEAR WARNING. ON CLIMBOUT …GET A GENERATOR FAILURE…RUN ECAM.
SPOT 5: PIT 10L- ENGINE FAILURE ON TAKEOFF. FLY 20-7 PROCEDURE. BE SURE TO PLACE THE EWC RADIAL ON THE ND FROM THE FIX INFO PAGE ON THE MCDU. FLY ENGINE FAILURE TO CLEAN UP.
SPOT 6: SHIFT TO FRANKFURT 25R. WINDSHEAR AGAIN IN AREA. PREPARE FOR IT AS IN SPOT 4. (QUERY FOR TAKEOFF ALTERNATE SO AS NOT TO RETURN TO FIELD THAT HAS STORMS AND WINDSHEAR IN AN EMERGENCY.) ON CLIMBOUT, YOU GET ENGINE EXCEEDENCE. ALL PARAMETERS ON ONE ENGINE WILL BE VERY RED… SIMULATING LOSS OF FADEC + CONTROL OF THAT ENGINE…WITH FULL THRUST… AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL OF AIRCRAFT IF NOT DEALT WITH QUICKLY. SHUT DOWN ENGINE QUICKLY WHILE USING CREW COORDINATION + SWITCH VERIFICATION. RETURN TO FIELD FOR ILS CAT IIIA AUTOLAND + LANDING.
SPOT 7: IMMEDIATE REPOSITION OF SIMULATOR TO COMPLETE SAME APPROACH ONLY CAT I ILS HAND FLOWN TO LANDING.
SPOT 8: PREDICTIVE WINDSHEAR EVENT. PLAN TAKEOFF USING QRH DECISION TREE..AND GET TAKEOFF ALTERNATE. INFLIGHT GET TCAS RA ONCE AGAIN. YOU WILL HAVE A MALFUCNTION REQUIRING ECAM AND RETURN TO FIELD AND ANOTHER APPROACH.

LEG 1: MANCHESTER(EGCC) TO LONDON GATWICK(EGKK) . THE ALTERNATE IS CARDIFF. MEL-BRAKE INOP. CHECK SPAR MATRIX FOR LEGALITY. LEGAL, BUT MUST LEAVE GEAR DOWN FOR BRAKE COOLING/PUT NOTE ON GEAR HANDLE. TOGA THRUST. ALSO POSSIBLE ACARS OUT… SO HAVE AN OF11B HANDY TO GIVE TO IRO TO GET TAKEOFF DATA BY SATPHONE IF NECESSARY.

AT MANCHESTER…SET UP ENGINE OUT PROCEDURE…USING LISTO ONE –RWY 06. ENROUTE LOSS OF GENERATOR- START APU. GATWICK USING WILLO2B ARRIVAL TO RWY 26. HOLD AT WILLO (MUST ENTER CORRECT PUBLISHED HOLDING PATTERN INTO MCDU ..LEFT TURNS ..5 MILE LEGS ..DME17-22). THIS OPENS DISCUSSION AGAIN ABOUT HOLDING AND FUEL PLANNING FROM PREVIOUS DAY. THEN YOU GET APPROACH TO 26L/GATWICK. ILS OR ASR. IF ASR, REQUEST QNH NOT QFE FOR APPROACH…READ APPROACH PLATE FOR REQUIRED ITEMS. LAND.


LEG 2: PLAN AS NORMAL FLIGHT FROM EGKK TO KPHL. F/O’S LEG. DEPARTURE IS LAM 4M. DO NORMAL OCEANIC PROCEDURES. ABOUT 20W, SOMETHING (ENG. FAIL) WILL GO WRONG REQUIRING A DIVERT OFF THE NAT TRACK TO NEAREST AIRPORT - PROBABLY EINN. (IF ENGINE FAILURE .. REMEMBER - MCT…REDUCE TO GREEN DOT. WHILE TURNING 90° OFF TRACK..HEADING BACK TO EINN-TRY SETTING UP 30 MILE OFFSET IN MCDU FOR F/O) CAPTAIN IS BUSY WITH ECAM/QRH/ DRIFTDOWN INFO./ ENGINE RESTART INFO/START APU …F/O IS FLYING….GET IRO TO MAKE ATC RADIO CALLS AND NOTIFICATIONS ON 121.5 ADVISING ALL PARTIES/ MAKING PA’S ETC.+ HELPING F/O WITH RADIO CALLS. CAPTAIN RUNS OVERWEIGHT LANDING CHECKLIST. BRIEFS APPROACH. LAND AIRCRAFT.
