Photo Contest
What’s the purpose of the contest?
We’re looking for photographs that depict how you’ve shared your museum experience with friends and family. The free contest will run for one month, from August 1-31, 2011. TCU Professor of Art Photography and Guest Judge Luther Smith will select the winning photographs, which will be used in various promotional and educational applications.

How do I enter?

  1. Email your photos to webmaster@cartermuseum.org. Please note: the file size limit is 8 MB.

  2. In your submission email, please include your name, age category, and telephone contact information.

  3. The museum reserves the right to inspect the images for appropriate content. After approved, the Webmaster will upload the images to the museum’s Facebook page. Please note: photos with inappropriate content will not be posted to Facebook or entered into the contest.


What are the rules?

  1. Submitted photos must be an individual’s own work, and he/she must own the rights to distribute the image.

  2. Three divisions are available for entry: ages 12 and under, ages 13-18, and ages 19 and over.

  3. Photos must comply with the Amon Carter’s photography policy.

  4. If faces are visible in the image, the submitting photographer is responsible for securing consent to publish.

  5. By emailing photos to webmaster@cartermuseum.org, the submitting photographer authorizes the Amon Carter to

    1. use all entered photographs for any museum use (including but not limited to educational, archival, advertising, public relations, marketing and promotional purposes, and in publications of the museum including books, magazines, posters, film, Internet use, and merchandise), in any media in perpetuity and without compensation;

    2. crop or manipulate the photographs;

    3. use the name submitted as the creator of the entry.

  6. All other rights are maintained by the submitting photographer.

  7. Museum employees and volunteers and their immediate families/household members are not eligible to win.

  8. By participating in the contest, you agree to the terms of these rules.


How will the winners be chosen?

  1. A first-place winner in each age category will be chosen by TCU Professor of Art Photography and Guest Judge Luther Smith and announced on the museum’s Facebook page and website. All decisions are final.

  2. Two runners-up in each category will also be chosen by Luther Smith and announced on the museum’s Facebook page and website. All decisions are final.

  3. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, photographic quality, and how well the photo captures the spirit of the Amon Carter.

  4. All decisions are final.

  5. The museum retains the sole discretion over the final selection of, and decision not to select, any particular entry as the winner.


What will the winners receive?

  1. Winners in each category will be contacted by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art via email by September 30, 2011. The winners will be required to respond by email to the museum within seven days or alternate winners will be selected.

  2. The first-place winners in each category will receive a one-year, dual/family membership (valued at $100), plus $100.

  3. The runners-up in each category will each receive a one-year, dual/family membership (valued at $100).

  4. Any taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. No substitutions or exchanges of prizes can be made.
