So deep a violence: Prostitution, trafficking and the global sex industry
29 minutes, color, video, ½ inch, VHS.

N. Amherst, MA: Coalition Against

Trafficking in Women, 2000.
Prostitution and sex trafficking are severe

forms of violence against women and

fundamental violations of women’s human

rights. The sex industry has become a

business without borders. As sex industries

expand, they seek out new global markets,

and often new and younger victims. Sex

industries reap billions of dollars from the

recruitment, transport, sale and/or purchase

of women and children for the purpose of

sexual exploitation. Spotlights the men who

create the demand for the sexual xploitation

of women and girls. Goes beyond the myths

about prostitution as a glamorous job, a new

form of work and a woman’s choice to

demonstrate the harm of prostitution and sex

trafficking. The sex industry and its

defenders say that prostitution and

trafficking cannot be eliminated, but only

regulated and organized. In contrast, this

program urges a campaign against the global

sex industry and its violation of women’s

rights.
