Comments:

(1) Considered part of A. lineare L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 295, by Stearn in Flora Europaea 5. Shall we accept the wider species concept? (Elven)

(2) We would prefer to keep it as a species. (Rebristaya)

(3) So done, tentatively, until more opinions appear. (Elven)

WARNING! Justification of A. strictum instead of A. lineare needed.
29.1.2  Allium schoenoprasum L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 301.

S

2n= 16 (2x).

2nD Löve & Löve (1975) list numerous counts; Májovský et al. (1976 C Eur).

Comments:

(1) The taxon named as 'A. sibiricum' in most northern areas must be taken into account. There has been much discussion concerning 'sibiricum', both the name and the taxon. In the regions I am familiar with, A. schoenoprasum s. str. and the 'sibiricum' entity are well separated in several presumed independent characters, and they are also allopatric here. There might be more problems in separation in areas where they are sympatric. There are also problems with the typification of the Linnaean name (see below) and there are some discrepancies in reported chromosome numbers (not reflected above). My current opinion is that the 'sibiricum' entity should be recognized, preferably as a subspecies. I have therefore entered it, tentatively under the probably erroneous name 'sibiricum'. (Elven)

S A. schoenoprasum L. var. sibiricum (L.) Hartm. (1843), Handb. Skand. Fl., ed. 4, 102.

2nD Löve & Löve (1975) list numerous counts, some as arctic; Laane (1965 arct Norw, as A. sibiricum).

G NOR RUS SIB RFE ALA CAN

Comments:

(1) As Linnaeus' A. sibiricum is described as white-flowered and as different from the arctic-subarctic plant commonly named as such, and as there probably is little or no suitable original material for a typification fitting the current usage, it is probably necessary to describe and name the northern race anew if we want to treat it as separate from A. schoenoprasum s. str. (Rebristaya & Elven)

(2) In the table received based on the Russian draft, geographic data for this species are missing. I have added some tentative information. (Elven)

Comments:

(1) The status of this entity   as variety or subspecies   depends, at least partly, on its geographic pattern. As it seems to be the North American parallel to the Eurasian S. amplexifolius s. str., subspecies is the obvious choice and I have changed accordingly from Rebristaya's draft. (Elven)

32  Convallariaceae (Draft: O.V. Rebristaya)

32.1  Maianthemum Wigg. (1780), Prim. Fl. Holsat. 14.

S Smilacina Desf. (1807), Ann. Mus. Hist. Nat. Paris 9: 51.

Comments:

(1) The genus Smilacina is included in Maianthemum by Conran & Tamura in Kubitzki (1998). We should probably follow this authoritative source in most cases and I have changed accordingly from Rebristaya's draft. (Elven)

32.1.1  Maianthemum bifolium (L.) F.W. Schmidt (1794), Fl. Boem. 4: 55.

Comments:

(1) Added to Rebristaya's draft as it is mapped by Hultén & Fries (1986 map 153) inside our Arctic in the Ob estuary (Yamal-Gydan). Also strongly approaches the Arctic in Kola Peninsula and Malozemelskaya Tundra. (Elven)

33.1.1  Iris setosa Pall. ex Link in Spreng., Schrad. & Link (1820), Jahrb. Gewächsk. 1, 3: 71.

S

2n= 38 (2x?).

2nD Löve & Löve (1975) list one American and one Russian (non-arctic) count for the collective species.

Comments:

(1) The var./subsp. interior must be included in some way as it is an entity accepted by Hultén (1968) and reaches the Arctic. It seems possible to separate the entities morpholgoically in Alaska. It is therefore tentatively added to the draft as a subspecies below. (Elven)

(2) We are a little sceptical to this race and want to study some material before acceptance. (Rebristaya)
